The purpose of the Award has been to encourage a student / researcher to undertake informed / academic work on an aspect of history / geography / language / literature / social history / music / environmental issues. Relevance to an appropriate area of the Western Isles is vital.
The executive body of The Gatliff Trust is considering a change for 2012 when the award may possibly be made to an archivist willing to work on the papers and reports of Herbert Gatliff and of Frank Martin, who continued the work of the Trust following the founder's death.
Proposals will be presented here in mid-December 2011. The intention will be to encourage the successful candidate to visit the Outer Hebrides and to see the outcome of Gatliff's enthusiasms.
